Oil on Canvas 2008 48 x 36 cm
This painting is based on a photograph taken in County Kildare in the Republic of Ireland. I chose this one to paint because I was intrigued by the way the rider was in control of the hounds, simply by holding her whip in front of them.
They don’t hunt foxes – the hounds follow a laid scent known as “drag lines”, created using a rag soaked in animal urine or aniseed.
Drag Foxing now graces the fields of Ireland as an alternative to Fox Hunting.
