In my composition “Meditation,” I sought to capture the profound stillness and introspective beauty that dawn imparts upon a silent grove. This 75 x 50 cm oil painting endeavours to offer a window into a moment of serene contemplation.
The trees, painted in soft hues of white and grey, appear almost ethereal against the warm glow of the morning sun. Their delicate branches reach towards the sky in a silent reverie, as if in quiet communication with the world around them. The decision to depict the trees with such ghostly translucence was deliberate, an attempt to symbolize thoughts and feelings that are present yet intangible, much like the fleeting nature of meditative states.
The technique I employed involves a layering of thinned oil paints, allowing the underpainting to whisper through the subsequent layers, creating a sense of depth and luminosity. This approach is particularly evident in the sky, where the soft gradation of colour mimics the gentle diffusion of sunlight through the morning mist.
The ground, with its earthy tones, anchors the composition and contrasts with the ethereal quality of the trees. The textural strokes here are more pronounced, inviting the viewer’s gaze to travel across the painting, following the interplay of light and shadow that gives the landscape its form.
“Meditation” is a painting that speaks to the soul. It is my artistic interpretation of the peace that can be found in nature and within oneself. It stands as an ode to the silent dialogue between the self and the universe during moments of quiet reflection.
